Measurements of charged particle spectra and nuclear modification factor in p+Pb collisions with the ATLAS detector
نویسنده
چکیده
The ATLAS detector at the LHC obtained the sample of p+Pb data at √ sNN = 5.02 TeV with integrated luminosity of 25 nb−1, which can be compared to the pp data obtained by interpolating pp measurements at √ s = 2.76 TeV and 7 TeV. Due to the excellent capabilities of the ATLAS detector, and its stable operation in heavy ion as well as proton–proton physics runs, the data allow measurements of the nuclear modification factor, ratio of heavy ion charged particle spectra divided by pp reference, in different centrality classes over a wide range of rapidity. The charged particle nuclear modification factor is found to vary significantly as a function of transverse momentum with a stronger dependence in more peripheral collisions. keywords: proton–lead collision, nuclear modification factor

ATLAS Results from the first Pb-Pb Collisions
The ATLAS detector is capable of resolving the highest energy pp collisions at luminosities sufficient to yield 10’s of simultaneous interactions within a bunch collision lasting <0.5 nsec. Already in 2011 a mean occupancy of 20 is often found in pp running. In 2004 studies by ATLAS showed that the detector would have excellent performance also for the foreseeable particle multiplicities in the...

متن کاملMeasurement of multi-particle azimuthal correlations in pp, p + Pb and low-multiplicity Pb + Pb collisions with the ATLAS detector
Multi-particle cumulants and corresponding Fourier harmonics are measured for azimuthal angle distributions of charged particles in pp collisions at √ s = 5.02 and 13 TeV and in p + Pb collisions at √ sNN = 5.02 TeV, and compared to the results obtained for low-multiplicity Pb + Pb collisions at √ sNN = 2.76 TeV. These measurements aim to assess the collective nature of particle production. The...
